A woman who was accused of assaulting homicide victim Rae Portman is demanding police pay her legal bills after they dropped the charge.
Model Voi Marie King, 30, was initially charged with assaulting Ms Portman in the days leading up to her disappearance on June 20 last year, but the allegation was dropped after she made three court appearances.
At the Manukau District Court today Judge Greg Hikaka said there was an issue over whether the charge had been dismissed or withdrawn.
The distinction is important because it determines whether costs can be awarded, he said.
The matter has been remanded until June.
