A 53-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with real estate fraud and will appear in court next week.
The woman is alleged to have defrauded people while acting as an agent for the sale of properties in South Auckland. In one of the cases, an overseas couple paid a large sum of money on a Clevedon property that was not for sale, police allege.
Detective Senior Sergeant Aaron Proctor said the arrest is of some comfort to the victims but they are still out of pocket of a significant sum of money.
Mr Proctor said anyone buying property should ensure the agent is registered and genuinely authorised to be involved in the sale.
The woman will appear before Pukekohe District Court next Wednesday.
