A 99-year-old woman is in hospital with injuries described as serious this morning after she woke to find an intruder in her Palmerston North home, say police.
Around 2am this morning police were called to an address in Roslyn, Palmerston North after neighbours heard a woman screaming.
Inspector Michael Coulter of Palmerston North police said it was understood that the woman awoke to find an intruder in her house.
Police arrested a 20-year-old man a short time after the incident and will interview him this morning.
The woman was taken to Palmerston North Hospital with arm and leg injuries.
Police would like to hear from anyone in the Rangiora Avenue area who may have information on the attack.
