KEY POINTS:
An 83-year-old woman has serious head injuries after being struck by a car at a recycling station at Waikanae, north of Wellington, yesterday.
She was one of two people dropping off items at the station when they were struck by the car. The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew the woman to Wellington Hospital.
The other injured person was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The accident occurred just as the Life Flight Open Day, which is part of the Westpac helicopter awareness week, closed.
