A 71-year-old woman was "remarkably stoic" after suffering a serious leg injury in a farming accident near Ashburton on Wednesday.
An ambulance spokeswoman said a call came in about 8am requesting help at the farm on Beach Rd, Elgin.
"The caller reported the woman's foot had been injured. Someone was heard saying her foot was hanging off."
Westpac Rescue pilot Quentin Hulse said the woman had been mustering stock when her lower leg was somehow caught by her car door as she reversed.
"When we got there the guys remarked that she was remarkably stoic given the injuries she had. "She's an old farming lady and she's strong and stoic."
