Woman, 61, dies after car goes over bank

A 61-year-old woman is dead after the car she was driving went over a bank near Wairoa this morning.

The accident happened on Kiwi Valley Rd, near State Highway 2, in northern Hawke's Bay.

The woman was alone in the car at the time and died soon after arriving at Wairoa Hospital, police said.

Meanwhile, police have named a Wairoa woman killed in a weekend crash north of the town.

She was Jessica Amie Leigh Ramsey.

The 28-year-old was thrown from the car she was travelling in when it left the road on a bend north of Whakaki, 18km north of Wairoa, hit a bank and rolled a number of times on Saturday morning.

She was airlifted to Hawke's Bay Hospital with serious head injuries but died the next day.

A 44-year-old man who was travelling with her was also taken to hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
