Witnesses stay silent on cyclist crushing

A cyclist left with serious brain injuries after she was run over by a trailer has been transferred to a head injury clinic.

The woman was in a coma after the incident late last year but has recently improved.

"She is not talking but she is able to communicate with small verbal responses," serious crash investigator Constable Mark Rodgers said.

"Her health has improved but in terms of recovery she still has months, if not years, in front of her."

Police were still seeking witnesses to the incident on the corner of the Strand and Quay St in September.

It is believed the woman, originally from Bulgaria, made contact with a car to her left before she lost control and fell under the wheel of a 750kg trailer being towed by a ute.

Rodgers said the case could screen on TV show Police Ten 7 as "a last-ditch effort" to find witnesses.

The woman's eldest daughter had flown from the United States to help with her mother's recovery and Rodgers wanted to tell her what caused the accident.

"This case is especially unfortunate because this woman was a highly qualified nurse who was the one who cared for people," Rodgers said.

"We would like to be able to give the woman's family some answers as to what happened that day."

Rodgers wants to hear from the driver of a dark BMW which was behind the trailer and a motorcyclist who would have also had a clear view.
