Police area appealing for witnesses after a Hamilton dairy was robbed at gunpoint this morning.
Officers went to the Manhattan Pricecutter on Grey St, near the intersection of Wellington St, about 9.30am after reports a man had threatened the woman shop attendant with a firearm, Detective Sergeant Neville Ross, of Hamilton CIB, said.
He made demands for money and tobacco, and the woman complied.
He made off with a pack of cigarettes and about $80, the woman, who did not wish to be identified, told NZPA.
Police were especially keen to speak with a woman believed to be in her 50s who was outside the dairy at the time.
The offender was believed to be Maori, with a light complexion, tall, of thin build, aged in his late teens early twenties.
Anyone with information was urged to contact Hamilton police.
