Spring might officially only be a couple of weeks away, but wintry weather is still packing a wallop.
The MetService today warned farmers to monitor vulnerable stock and drivers to take care on the roads as a cold front is expected to bring more snow to the South Island over the next few days.
Many roads remain closed and other impassable except with chains from last week's heavy snow dump across the South Island.
The MetService forecast snow down to low levels in Southland and Otago today, spreading up to Canterbury, Marlborough, and the southern half of the North Island by tomorrow evening.
It also issued a heavy snow warning for the coastal hills of Otago, including higher suburbs of Dunedin, and the Banks Peninsula.
The MetService said snow was likely to affect many roads in the east and south of the South Island and conditions were likely to be stressful to stock.
Rain was predicted to hit most of the rest of the country today and tomorrow.
Today a frozen runway temporarily closed Queenstown airport, but no flights were affected.
