KEY POINTS:
Police have released the name of a man killed when the car he was driving crashed north of Invercargill last night.
Senior Sergeant Bruce Terry of the Winton police said Edward James Ellis, 37, from Invercargill, lost control of his car on a bend, crossing the centre line and crashing through trees into a ditch.
The crash happened on State Highway 6, a couple of kilometres south of Winton about 10.45pm.
Mr Terry said police had spoken to the drivers of a ute and truck who stopped to check the crash scene, but were keen to hear from other witnesses.
