Wairarapa made a huge impact at the Margaret Hiha hockey tournament held in Napier last week with both their under-13 team and their under-13 development side winning their particular sections.
Up against opposition from Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Counties-Manukau, Taranaki, Rangitikei and Central Hawkes Bay neither of them tasted defeat.
The under-13 side met Hawke's Bay in their grand final, winning 4-1. It was the first time they had won their grade at this particular tourney.
Special mention must be made of goalkeeper Annemeike Van Vliet who due to the ill health of the other 'keeper was required to play eight games in two days, an imposing ask for a 10-year-old.
The under-13 development side played Central Hawkes Bay in their grand final and triumphed 4-2 to win their trophy for the second successive year.
Wairarapa were also well represented on the umpiring front with student Suzannah Van Woerkom maintaining a high standard throughout, including in the finals.
