KEY POINTS:
A Toast Martinborough patron who apparently drank more than his fair share of wine is facing court after allegedly stealing a bus to take for a joyride and crashing it.
Police claimed the Carterton man took over a Transit bus, which had about half a dozen people on board, and drove it around Martinborough's Square near the end of the festival on Sunday, the Dominion Post reported.
Sergeant Caroline Watson said the bus eventually crashed into a bus stop sign and the driver fled, but tripped and fell, directly in front of a passing car of security guards.
A 19-year-old was charged with driving with excess breath alcohol and unlawfully taking a bus and would appear in Masterton District Court later this month.
