Wind farm developers are scouting for more turbine sites across a large area of Hawkes Bay.
Garry Brady, spokesman for a group of Te Pohue residents, says farmers from Patoka to Tutira have been asked if they would be interested in having turbines on their land - some of which might be more suitable than the Te Pohue-Titiokura Saddle sites, west of Napier, for which Unison and Hawke's Bay Wind Farms are seeking consents.
The Ministry of Economic Development recommended that wind farms be "geographically dispersed" into different wind zones around the country. The council is hearing this week Unison's application for the first 16 of its 40-45 planned turbines.
