A man has admitted killing his Kiwi girlfriend in Fife, Scotland, before watching football on television as her body lay nearby.

William Marshall, 43, attacked Jennifer Edwards at her house in Kirkcaldy sometime between June 8-14 last year, the BBC reported.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that 45-year-old Edwards' bank account was emptied days before Marshall reported her dead, according to the BBC.

Prosecutor Keith O'Mahony said a neighbour had spotted Marshall watching TV through a window on June 13, when Edwards would have been dead on the floor of her home.

"It was noted this coincided with the live broadcast of a well-publicised football game," O'Mahony told the court.

That was the date Scotland played Ireland in Dublin in a vital European Championship qualifier. The game ended 1-1.

The BBC reported that the day after the match, Marshall phoned the police to say he had arrived home and Edwards "was not breathing".

A post mortem examination revealed she had been dead for between two and four days. She had "sustained a number of blunt force injuries" and had suffered bleeding on the brain.

Marshall pleaded guilty to culpable homicide after it was substituted for a murder charge.

He will be sentenced next month.

However, he pleaded not guilty to assaulting Edwards between October 2010 and June 2015.

O'Mahoney said 84 domestic incidents between the couple were logged with police during that period, the BBC reported.

"Numerous witnesses speak of Miss Edwards complaining about Marshall's violence.

"He also made an admission to a family member that he had given her a black eye.

"In March 2015, she told a friend she was frightened he might kill her one day."
