KEY POINTS:
Two men charged with the murder of South Auckland policeman Sergeant Don Wilkinson will go to a depositions hearing next year to decide if they should stand trial for murder.
John Ward Skinner, 37, and Ian Lindsay Clegg, 33, were jointly charged with murdering Mr Wilkinson in Mangere on September 11, after he was shot in the chest with a high-powered air rifle.
Sgt Wilkinson was planting a tracking device on a house suspected of being an illegal drugs lab in Mangere East.
Both men appeared in a pre-depositions hearing in Manukau District Court today. They were remanded in custody for a two-week depositions hearing on March 16 to decide if they should face trial in the High Court.
Skinner also faced a charge of assault with a weapon.
