A low-pressure weather system that battered Queensland over the weekend is rapidly heading our way but forecasters say its exact path is difficult to predict.
The compact depression, on track to sideswipe Northland this afternoon, cut power to 100,000 Queensland homes over the weekend as 115km/h winds brought down trees and powerlines.
The depression is forecast to cross Northland this afternoon and be near East Cape by the end of the day.
"It will be in quickly and out quickly. This system has been packing a mighty punch," Met Service weather ambassador Bob McDavitt said.
He said those involved in outdoor activities in the north today will need to double-check the weather forecasts and be prepared for a brief burst of intense wind and rain if this system changes track.
