Wild weekend weather knocked yachts onto rocks near Tamaki Drive, as warnings of strong winds around Auckland's harbours continue.
"It broke away in the huge storm," said one unfortunate owner, Paddy Evans. "I expected it to be a write-off."
Mr Evans said the coastguard called him at the height of the storm at midnight on Saturday. He was told five other boats had suffered the same fate.
He found his yacht yesterday marooned on rocks. The hull had two holes, one of which he was able to patch up before the coastguard attempted to winch the boat back into water.
MetService last night issued a strong wind advisory for the Manukau and Waitemata Harbours, the Hauraki Gulf and Bream Head to Cape Colville, saying gusts up to 35 knots would continue this afternoon.
