A widespread power outage is affecting homes and businesses in and around Hawkes Bay this morning.
A Transpower spokeswoman said power was lost to the Hawkes Bay and Poverty Bay area from 9.55am due to a major transformer fault at Redclyffe substation near Napier.
Crews were on-site and the fault was expected to be resolved within one hour.
Lines companies would then be able to begin restoring service to individual businesses and consumers.
A Transpower spokeswoman could not say how many customers had been affected at this stage, nor when power would be restored to everyone.
