John Campbell: TV3 news co-anchor, admired by former colleague and TVNZ news head Bill Ralston, but on a watertight contract for the time being. Ralston said last night he doubted Campbell would be knocking on his door.
Kim Hill: TV1 interviewer and National Radio Saturday morning host. Not at ease on television - would not offer down-home quirkiness in Holmes and Campbell vein. Would provide solid current affairs.
Anita McNaught: British journalist, formerly resident in New Zealand, and these days an occasional face on our screens. Her helming of the June State of the Nation debate, seen as a bit of a test, was not a great success. (Surely we can find local talent?)
Susan Wood: TVNZ journalist. Usually Holmes' understudy, she will probably hold the fort until the end of the year at least. Whether that translates into the job is moot.
Eric Young: TVNZ presenter well-liked and respected by Bill Ralston, and being groomed for higher things. But is he high-profile enough yet to be a serious proposition?
Linda Clark: National Radio Nine to Noon host, politics specialist. Said last month in an interview that her TV days were behind her.
Paul Henry: Host, with Alison Mau, of TVNZ's Breakfast. Current Radio Pacific host. Has the background, but does he have the personality?
Simon Dallow: TVNZ journalist and presenter. Below the radar.
