Employee relations and training adviser, Transfield Services Infrastructure
Q. Why did you apply for this job?
A. What attracted me to this new role was a return to an environment that I had really enjoyed at Carter Holt Harvey. I love the coalface (excuse the pun) nature of the role. The employee relations focus was also a definite drawcard.
Q. What are the major challenges ahead of you?
A. Staff management will, to some extent, be new territory for me. I see this as more of an opportunity to pool knowledge than anything else.
In HR and ER I've found that you never hear the same query twice, so every day is a new challenge and you rarely go home without having learned something new.
Q. What qualities do you bring to the job?
A. I think the best quality that I bring to this job will be my passion. Having also worked for several industries, I can bring the best of those experiences to my role.
Q. What do you expect to be the most enjoyable parts of the job?
A. Learning about a new industry, working with a dedicated organisation, travelling to various sites around the country, and the support of a close-knit team.
Q. What are the major challenges facing the HR profession at the moment?
A. The continually changing face of the workplace is a huge challenge for HR practitioners. There have been a number of significant changes to legislation that are affecting all aspects of business. Aside from the day-to-day needs, the industry itself is expanding.
