Were you one of the people who applied for this job and wondered who got it?
Job title: General manager Health Support
Gregory Managh, 39, feels he has come full circle. For 14 months from October 2001 he worked for Health Support's parent company, Ebos, as group manager of logistics.
He then left to become general manager of operations for supply chain company Exel, but was soon asked to have a look at Health Support's general manager's job.
Of course Managh was interested - the post was a step up, and its operational thrust, he says, coupled with a sales and marketing focus and the chance to build relationships at high levels, offered wider horizons. The decision to take the job, says Managh, "was a no-brainer. I wanted to spread my wings".
Auckland-based Health Support is a one-stop shop for hospitals and health clinics. "We provide everything from pharmaceuticals, the gowns doctors wear in operations to the instruments they use, and even the coffee they drink afterwards."
The company supplies around 20,000 items and turns over $120 million every year.
Marton-born Managh had a variety of occupations after leaving school, including three years at Otago's "university of life", ski-lift operator, several seasons making "modest" progress in an English cricket league, and two years as a Contiki tour manager in Europe.
On returning to New Zealand, Managh embarked on a bachelor of business and information systems degree at Unitec.
Eight years at Linfox Logistics in Manukau followed. He started as an analyst supporting the then operations manager, and had become the operations manager by the time he joined Health Support the first time round.
