Were you one of the 44 people who applied for this job and wondered who got it?
Job title: General manager transmission services.
For: Alstom.
It's a powerful position, and Roger Foy will be filling it.
He's to be the new general manager of transmission services for Otahuhu-based Alstom, and will be working closely with key Alstom client Transpower, the state-owned national grid operator.
"I'll be wearing a Transpower hat from time to time," he said.
He will lead 300 people nationwide.
Foy says that after eight and a half years as the general manager of the industrial group of engineering company Beca Carter, it was time to be looking elsewhere.
He was pleasantly surprised to find that Auckland did offer other opportunities in what he calls "heavy industry".
And he's unworried by the strife and criticism that has surrounded the power industry lately.
"I think it's interesting. It makes it a dynamic industry, to be honest. Where there is change there is opportunity," he said.
The chance to take on "a full GM-type role" was the main attraction of the job, said 46-year-old Foy, who has a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Canterbury.
He said: "Team leadership and client relationship management are really the core parts of the job."
Horner and Partners consultant Peter Kerridge says there were 44 applications for the role.
