Q: What were you doing before accepting your new position?
A: I was Financial Controller at FSL Holdings Ltd, a group of seven NZ companies predominantly involved in the automotive industry. Before moving into the automotive industry I spent seven years in the IT Industry at Oracle NZ & Geac Computers.
Q: Why did you apply for this job?
A: I was looking for three main elements in a new role: a company with serious growth prospects, a broad and autonomous position that would allow me to become actively involved throughout the business, and a return to working in the IT industry.
Q: What are the major challenges ahead of you?
A: Last year Certus began offering hosted business integration services to clients throughout Asia Pacific. One of my main challenges is to support Certus as it continues to grow its Asia Pacific footprint and develop its NZ operations.
Q: What qualities do you bring to the job?
Q: Having a Marketing Degree and ICANZ membership, I have a very broad commercial view of business.
My IT Industry experience has given me a detailed understanding of the risks associated with software implementation projects, software licensing and intellectual property.
Q: What does being a CFO mean to you?
A: In addition to the given financial management, statutory, legal & tax requirements a CFO's role is to ensure the infrastructure is provided so the business can achieve its growth objectives. Corporate governance, commercial practices, risk management, forecasting, systems efficiency, support staff and physical infrastructure are core components of Certus's infrastructure for which I will be responsible.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Music, film, rugby (armchair), fishing, tennis, golf and my two young daughters ensure I'm always busy.
