A: The role, the company and the industry. Northplan is considered a premium brand in the financial planning industry, with management that is forward-thinking, entrepreneurial, and focused on staff development. The job here brings variety of work, challenges and opportunities that I believe are difficult to find in a large corporate.
Q: What were you doing before?
A: Since returning from overseas in 2000 I have been consulting, primarily in the energy industry. I have worked on a variety of strategic projects, and in commercial and operational roles. I also have an interest in a small export company I established with my business partner last year. We send New Zealand arts and design to Britain.

A: Being part of a small, motivated management team and having the opportunity to be involved in all facets of running and growing a business.
Q: What are the major challenges ahead of you?
A: Initially to get a better understanding of the business and the industry in which it operates. Then to ensure the financial structure, systems and processes are able to support the present and future goals of the business.
Q: What does being financial manager mean to you?
A: A successful financial manager is not only about timely and accurate reporting and budgeting. A good financial manager must also have the ability to see the bigger picture, and provide expert financial advice to business decision making and strategic planning - being a key part of a successful management team.
Q: Were you surprised to be offered the job?
A: I knew I would have strong competition due to the position and the type of company Northplan is.
