Were you one of the people who applied for this job and wondered who got it?
Job: Corporate tax/treasury manager
For: Feltex Carpets
Mike Gray's new job will be a complete change of scene, and one he says he will relish.
Just back from three-and-a-half years with KPMG in Dublin with Irish fiancee Michele O'Reilly, he has for 11 years offered tax advice to clients with the company.
But in this situation, he says, clients don't always take the advice offered:
"You get to write opinion, but don't get to ensure it happens. Good advice isn't always followed."
But as the corporate tax/treasury manager for Feltex in Auckland, he will be in the reverse position - receiving advice from consultants. "And I'm looking forward to being the receiver," he says.
"I'll be establishing and building relationships with professional advisers, and liaising with Feltex's tax and legal advisers."
The job was advertised "blind" - without naming the employer - and Gray wasn't told until well into the face-to-face interview process.
He was surprised, and impressed: Feltex had not been on his A-list of places to seek jobs.
"But they are one of the few companies in Auckland with in-house tax advisers - their business justifies that."
A large part of the attraction, he says, is that the job is "definitely moving outside my comfort zone."
"It's a new challenge."
Andrew McLeod, of Management Search International, says he received 20 applications for the job.
