Struan MacLeod, 35, financial controller of Auckland private equity firm Icap, says his new role will be to control the financial functions of the business and to help manage the growth of the firm.
It is an opportunity, he says, to join a company that is both successful and well-respected.
"The diverse range of duties within the role provides great scope to get involved in the business and its portfolio companies," says MacLeod. The exposure to multiple industries and working with a small intelligent team is also attractive, he says.
MacLeod holds a bachelor of business studies in accountancy from Massey University, and was formerly a business analyst for Auckland-based Econet Wireless for 18 months. He had been involved in business case development and planning, as well as capital raising and financial control. This experience, he says, will "assist with the transactional side of the Icap role".
MacLeod says that his previous senior financial positions were very closely related. Previous roles included European financial planning director for Worldxchange UK, financial controller for Worldxchange France and accounting manager for Worldxchange NZ.
With his new role, the challenge, he says, will be to quickly gain an understanding all of the businesses of the portfolio companies. He is looking forward to working with the firm's directors to improve the company's performance and continually being challenged with new and exciting matters.
MacLeod hopes to build on his financial background through exposure to a variety of business operations at Icap, and ultimately aspires to be a company director.
Finding a good work and home life balance is also important to the married father of one, whose second child is due in four months.
