Pocket CV
Name: Adam Tyrie
1997-1999 Birse Construction, London
1999-2003 McNicholas, London - engineering & design manager
2003-2004 Arrow International, Auckland;
Project manager engineering manager buildings at Auckland International Airport
Q: What were you doing before you accepted your new position?
A: I was project manager with Arrow International on the construction and project management of several commercial projects in Auckland.
Q: Why did you apply for this job?
A: I wanted to use my engineering experience more, in a management capacity with a blue chip company.
Q: What are the major challenges ahead of you?
A: Auckland International Airport is growing fast in a period of huge demand within the construction industry. We must continue to develop within commercial constraints to satisfy tenants and shareholders, and still encourage contractors to undertake further work with us.
Q: What qualities do you bring to the job?
A: I have extensive experience from Britain of construction of large area warehouses for commercial and logistics tenants, and New Zealand commercial construction experience from recent and previous roles.
Q: What do you enjoy about this role?
A: The diversity of the role and dynamism of the place.
I deal with professional consultants, tenants, prospective tenants, contractors, airport colleagues, including MAF, immigration and security.
I get to see projects from concept to completion and maintain a managing role throughout the process.
Q: What does the job mean to you?
A: I am responsible for ensuring the quality of the commercial buildings at the airport (not the terminals), and that they support company objectives and plans.
I need to ensure we have satisfied tenants, operating from well-built buildings, which will encourage others to locate here.
Q: What do you do in your spare time?
A: Being English, I love my football (soccer) and play for a local team, winter and summer. I also tend to our 1920s bungalow, which always seems to need something doing to it to keep it up to scratch.
