Job: Human resources manager, Green Lane Hospital.
For: Auckland District Health Board.
Belinda Storey is happiest in tough times.
She is relishing working for Auckland DHB as it undertakes a major reshuffle of its services, consolidating all in-patient services at Auckland Hospital and reallocating those at Green Lane Hospital.
"The health sector, in my view, is a big part of the economy and a big part of society," she says.
"Because Auckland [DHB] is going through such an amount of change, it gives me a chance to get involved on the frontline."
Waikato-born Storey, aged 28, admits that she is at her best in "tough" environments.
"I'm not afraid of conflict and I'm the sort of person who is able to retain integrity and professionalism even when the going gets tough," she says.
The key to helping staff to deal with change, she says, is a lot of information, "as much communication as is possible ... so people can reduce the amount of uncertainty."
She has been impressed by the warmth and humour demonstrated by the Auckland DHB's staff.
"That seems to be the glue that holds everyone together in a tough environment," she says.
Storey admits that her route to human resources was a little unusual.
She is a Canterbury political science graduate specialising in negotiation, and has worked for the Department of Labour's industrial relations unit and the New Zealand Dairy Group.
