Were you one of the people who applied forthis job and wondered who got it?
Job title: Logistics manager.
For: Chemcolour Industries.
It's planes, trains and trucks all the way for Simon Maddox, the new logistics manager of North Shore-based company Chemcolour Industries.
Anything to do with transporting the company's products in, around or out of the country is his domain. And in this, his first week in the new job, he's getting a fast geography lesson.
Maddox, 33, is a native of the British city of Liverpool, but is married to a Kiwi he met there. The pair recently decided to make New Zealand their home.
"The big attraction [of the New Zealand job] was moving back in to a chemicals-based industry I had knowledge of." Chemcolour is involved in colouring and dyes for industries ranging from fashion to food. "It is a good growing company in New Zealand."
One imagines it could be a stunningly complicated job, trying to weave together supply strands, transport and deadlines involving all parts of the world. "It can be complicated," Maddox concedes. "You need a good team around you."
Maddox holds a bachelor of science degree in geography, but says he didn't know what to do for a career until his third year of tertiary study.
"Distribution management popped out and it looked interesting," he says.
Larry Small, of Executive Appointments, says Maddox "was selected from over 50 applicants as a result of his excellent people skills, strong knowledge of inventory computer system and background in the chemicals industry".
