Chartered accountant Ian Tattersall's new job sees him returning to his Westie roots. Athena Products, a successful bathroomware firm that grew from humble beginnings, is based in Avondale.

Born and bred in West Auckland, and a former student at Te Atatu's Rutherford College, Tattersall has a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Auckland.

He was previously with Ernst and Young, and starts with Athena on Monday.

"I'm getting back to the west," he says, "and that's all cool."

Although the job was advertised "blind" - the company wasn't named - Tattersall says he liked the "energy" in the advertisement. It talked of a need for an understudy for the company's financial controller - a person "looking onward and upward". Says Tattersall, 26: "It really had a lot of energy. It got across that this [Athena] is a really good, forward company, and they need a person with a lot of passion for what they do." He is keen to run his own business, and says a smaller company suits those plans better.
