Job title: Executive director.
For: Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
Craig Leyland was scouting around for a new job across the Tasman - "there weren't a lot of financial controller roles being advertised in New Zealand, and Australia was looking a little more liquid" - when an Auckland recruitment consultant dangled an enticing prospect before him.
To cut the story short, 30-year-old Leyland "came back to look at it," and is consequently one Kiwi brain which wasn't drained. His sights are very much set on Auckland.
"I wanted something that would offer me some sort of career path, something that was going to have a reasonable amount of challenge," he says.
"I enjoy working with people, and wanted to make sure I could work with a team, and could help develop as well as challenge them."
In his new job, Leyland has 10 staff split between Auckland and Wellington and describes "commercialising" Deloitte's finance function as a key part of his job.
Leyland comes from two years with Blue Star.
Kaitaia-born, he has a bachelor of commerce and a commerce diploma from the University of Auckland, and like many young number-crunchers, has taken his skills overseas.
However, he eschewed the well-trodden trail to England, choosing instead to transfer with his then-employer, Ernst and Young, to Toronto between 1996 and 1998.
