Were you one of the people who applied for this job and wondered who got it?
Job title: National field sales manager.
For: Boost Mobile.
Deane Urquhart just loves his new job with youth-oriented mobile company Boost.
"This 36-year-old's been made into a 22-year-old again," he laughs.
Boost is an Australia-based joint venture with Telecom Mobile to capture the sporty, adventure activity-oriented 15-30 age group with pre-paid mobiles, phone accessories and phone calling cards.
It sponsors all sorts of events which appeal to that group, so Urquhart was at the recent V8 Supercar meeting at Pukekohe.
"It's all about a lifestyle," he says.
It was a radio ad puffing the entertainment on offer at Boost's August launch - which included skateboarders and freestyle motorcyclists, and was held at Auckland waterfront bar Leftfield - which drew him to the company. Two weeks later, a friend told him about the job, which he describes as "exciting."
Urquhart has a rugby and wakeboarding background, and his three sons - aged 9, 7 and 4 - are, naturally, delighted at the fun stuff dad's now involved with.
Urquhart has a sales and marketing background, and spent the past eight years in the stationery business. His job with Boost will involve selling, coaching and motivating sales reps, and helping the company to make its mark.
