White powder found in a parcel addressed to the chairman of the Auckland District Health Board Wayne Brown was not anthrax, the National Disease Centre told police today.
Auckland city police communications manager, Andi Brotherston confirmed the finding today in a brief statement. No other details were given.
About 25 people were evacuated from an office block at Green Lane Hospital on Wednesday, after Mr Brown opened the brown A4 envelope from the United States around 10 am.
Mr Brown and board secretary Ian Bell took medication to prevent the possibility of an anthrax infection.
Police spokeswoman Andi Brotherston said in an earlier report to the Herald, that the letter had come from the Harvard Business School, and an e-mail had been sent to the person identified as having sent it.
"We're just trying to establish from the person who sent it to Wayne Brown, if they put white powder in it and what it is," she said.
Contact had also been made with a United States law enforcement official.
