Pahiatua's Paul Whibley is rocketing towards a record fifth consecutive title win in the high-profile Off-Road Motorcycle and ATV (OMA) series in the United States.
The Yamaha ace won round four of this season's championship in Michigan last weekend, further stretching his lead at the top of the points standings and ensuring he is well on course to keep the crown he has held every year since he first won it in 2008.
With very dry and dusty conditions, a good start was always going to be super important at this fourth round of the OMA series. The tight sandy trails and choking dust set to make passing difficult.
Whibley, 33, started well to lead from arch rival Russell Bobbitt and once the riders got away from the grassy field and into the woods the tightness of the trails meant maintaining his advantage became easier.
By the five mile marker Whibley was 25 seconds ahead of Bobbitt and while there were parts of the course where the opposition had the chance to close he continued to call the tune and won by a comfortable margin.
