KEY POINTS:
Truck drivers protesting at proposed new road user charges planned by the government are expected to bring some peak-hour traffic to a standstill for hours tomorrow.
Protests were planned for Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, New Plymouth, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Gore and Invercargill.
The main centre protests will take the following routes:
AUCKLAND
Operators to gather at nearest motorway on-ramp for 7.30am departure and take two routes off the motorway.
* Route 1: Operators coming from west take the Nelson St off-ramp and operators from the North Shore take Cook St off-ramp into Nelson St, right into Victoria St, right into Queen St, head up Queen St to the top and turn left into Karangahape Rd, left into Symonds St, left into Wellesley St, left into Queen St and repeat.
* Route 2: Operators coming from south will take the off-ramp into Symonds St, turn right into Upper Queen St, go down Queen St and turn left into Wellesley St, left into Hobson St, left into Pitt St, left into Karangahape Rd, left into Queen St and repeat.
WELLINGTON
The protest begins at 7am.
* Route 1: Assemble at Mackays Crossing, follow SH1 through the Terrace Tunnel, turn into Taranaki St, drive down Jervois Quay, turn left at Whitmore St, and drive past Parliament Buildings to the Molesworth St off-ramp
* Route 2: Assemble at Seaview, drive along Petone Esplanade and down SH2 to the motorway and through the Terrace Tunnel, turn into Taranaki St, drive down Jervois Quay, turn left at Whitmore St, drive past Parliament Buildings to the Molesworth Street off-ramp.
CHRISTCHURCH
* Route 1: Assemble at 7am Riccarton Racecourse, Epsom Rd. At 7.30am depart the racecourse and turn right into Epsom Rd, drive to the Sockburn roundabout and merge into the left lane on Blenheim Rd, turn into Moorhouse Ave, drive to Montreal St, turn right into Salisbury St, right into Manchester St, right into St Asaph St, right into Montreal St, angle left at Victoria St into Bealey Ave before dispersing through Bealey Ave (left or right) or Papanui Rd.
* Route 2: Assemble at 7am at Steve Murphy Ltd, Old Main North Rd to leave at 7.30am and turn left into Old Main North Rd, left into Tram Rd, left into the motorway, merge into left lane of the Northern Motorway, take Main North Rd through Cranford St intersection to Papanui Rd, Victoria St, turn left into Durham St, left into Lichfield St, left into Madras St, left into Kilmore St and right into Victoria St. Disperse through Bealey Ave (left or right) or Papanui Rd.
DUNEDIN
* Route 1: Drive down the northern end of the one-way system from the George St Overbridge, turn right on to Princess St and end at the Octagon.
* Route 2: From Andersons Bay to the one-way system, turn left onto George St and end at the Octagon.
