Order a craft beer at Auckland's newest beer bar, 16 Tun, and your voice might just change as you do. It's different to swiping a few Heinekens, or something of similar commonality from just any old bartender.
You'll articulate with care the lesser-known boutique beers, which are often given outlandish names by the hops-mad. And your tone will also change because you are leaning in knowingly to order something that only a true beer enthusiast would request.
It's a nice, unspoken allegiance to be part of, and something 16 Tun, located in the Wynyard Quarter, has set out to cater to, luring in Auckland's beer lovers with 10 taps, two of which will rotate every few weeks; big, hoppy pale ales; IPAs and local tipples that offer up bolder flavour and more than just cold fizz.
The fit out is suitable for imbibing beer; wood-clad walls and floors, with copper detailing, exposed light bulbs and booth seating for groups. You'll go here, and find yourself saying: "Can I get a Parrot Dog, two Epic Apocalypses, oh and something yeastie from the tap?"
