The burger trend just got much cheaper. Stripping them back to basics - offering only hamburgers, cheeseburgers, double cheeseburgers and vege burgers (with portobello mushroom) - burger vendor Better Burger opened this week between bars 1885 and Britomart Country Club.
The new offering from Britomart Hospitality Group is based on the idea that a good burger needn't be gourmet, just better (locally sourced, organic) ingredients made well by head chef Dan Smith (pictured). The buns are from Bread and Butter Bakery, beef is North Island Angus, and tomatoes are from the Curious Croppers.
Open late, it's a delicious alternative to the late-night McDonald's run, with burgers priced between $5 and $6.50. Also on the menu are shakes, soft drinks and handmade fries, and you're free to enjoy them with liquor at BCC next door.
It's a movement that keeps growing, with recently opened options Burger Burger in Ponsonby Central and Pinky's in Tyler Street Garage, plus websites such as pornburger.me celebrating this fast food classic.
