Hare Peihopa, 18, has had "on and off jobs" in Auckland and most recently worked on a kumara farm near Dargaville until three months ago. We find him sitting in Whangarei's mall with his uncle Bunny Peihopa, 44, who has "made a career" out of selling marijuana.
"I don't sell drugs, I don't even smoke or drink," says Hare. He needs a job because his partner is pregnant.
"I will get a job," he says. "My mum is coming up from Auckland and that'll help us out a lot. We'll apply for a [Housing NZ] house. I applied before I knew my baby was on the way."
Where are the jobs? Desperate times, but hope on the way
