Keep majority public ownership of Air NZ for the foreseeable future, but do not rule out selling a cornerstone shareholding of up to the legal limit of 24.9 per cent to Qantas or another foreign airline.
National:
Supported sale of 49 per cent of Air NZ to Singapore Airlines last year, but oppose sale of any significant stake to Qantas. Has not considered whether Government should keep majority control.
NZ First:
Consider selling up to 24.9 per cent of Air NZ to Qantas if justified by synergies. Keep at least 75.1 per cent in NZ hands.
Act:
Sell all Government shares in Air NZ, but use competition law to stop Qantas taking ownership or management control.
Greens:
Oppose all foreign shareholding in Air NZ but consider selling shares to NZ tourism industry and other NZ interests.
United Future:
Sell Government shareholding in the long term. Do not rule out selling a stake to Qantas, but do not see this as in NZ's strategic interests at present.
Progressive Coalition:
Keep majority public ownership of Air NZ, but do not rule out selling a cornerstone shareholding of up to 24.9 per cent to Qantas or another foreign airline.
Alliance:
Keep all existing Government shares in Air NZ and oppose bringing in any private cornerstone shareholder.
