Manukau residents are living in fear after the third homicide in the city in just over a week.
Joanne Wang, 39, died after being hit by a vehicle carrying a person who snatched her handbag; Yang Yin Ping, 80, was attacked in her Manurewa home and left inside a wardrobe. She died from her injuries; and Navtej Singh, 30, was shot during a robbery of his business Riverton Liquor in Riverton Rd, Manurewa.
However, the communities are standing strong with about 100 people taking part in a march and rally in Newmarket recently calling for tougher laws and sentences.
The demonstration "New Zealand - a land fit for criminals?" was organised by the Sensible Sentencing Trust.
