Mixed Member Proportional (MMP)
To have any seats in parliament under the MMP voting system, a party must get five per cent of the party vote or win an electorate seat.
The proportional system means that there is likely to be a range of big and small parties in parliament and governments will usually be made up of more than one party, either by coalition or support agreements.
