"The funding will strengthen our working relationships with Whanau Ora (groups) who play a critical role as brokers for our Pasifika families and will support them to continue to provide the services they offer."
Among the recipients set to help communities is The Fono Health & Social Services group.
Established in 1987, it was initially a small general practitioners clinic.
Today it services Pasifika people around Auckland and recently in Northland; helping to provide affordable medical, dental, educational and social welfare services.
Chief executive Tevita Funaki said the Whanau Ora programme would help them to help many Pasifika families look after themselves.
"It allows us to work closely with Pasifika Futures Ltd as our funder and directly with our Pacific families to identify best solutions to meet their needs."
Mr Funaki said the money would also allow for more staff who could directly go out to meet families in person - something particularly important in Pasifika cultures.
One of those families is the Mataika family in Massey, West Auckland.
Gina Mataika, whose family is Fijian, said she and her husband faced a hard struggle when she lost her job about two years ago.
"I was paying all the bills and the rent and whatever my husband earned was for extras like the kids' clothes or other luxuries. But when I lost my job, it was very difficult."
She was unable to get any of her insurance out and had to pull out all the stops to keep themselves afloat.
"I was selling things from my house on the side of the road. I sold my curtains for $20 just to get some money for the kids."
Mrs Mataika, who fell pregnant with her third child just before losing her job, faced a difficult birth and got help from staff at The Fono clinic in Henderson.
A staffer visited her weekly to discuss the family's financial issues and how they could work things out, as well as providing emotional support for the family.
Recently they bought Mrs Mataika's 16-year-old daughter a laptop for $450 to help with her assignments.
