Whakatane takes the cake

Whakatane has produced the world's longest chocolate log.

Created by New World bakers, the 35.79m, 77.976kg cake has won a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

Containing 3200 eggs and 33kg of flour, it was baked in sections which were assembled, iced, decorated with strawberries and displayed in the supermarket's carpark.

Money raised from selling slices was donated to teenage cancer charity Canteen.
