A fire at Whakatane Intermediate School last night caused serious damage to one classroom.
A spokesman for the Fire Service said emergency calls about the fire came in at 6pm last night.
Four fire units from Whakatane, Ohope and Edgecumbe were called to the scene last night, where they found one classroom fully ablaze.
A Fire Safety Officer would be returning to the scene this morning to see if a cause for the blaze could be established.
