The rain Aucklanders have copped today is likely to ease for a relatively fine but cool weekend.
MetService forecaster Cameron Coutts says the showers should dry up by dawn Saturday in Auckland, while Northland may still see a few tomorrow.
Sunday will be fine apart from a bit of cloud in the top of the north, and there will be fresh south-westerly winds and highs of 13 to 14 degrees.
"The east coast of the North Island will see some rain tomorrow," says Mr Coutts. "There will be the odd heavy fall in Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay overnight and tomorrow morning but that's it."
The weather warning currently in place for the Kaikoura Ranges should lift this evening as heavy rain eases.
Philip Duncan at Weather Watch says as higher air pressure moves in from the west, conditions in the South Island should improve apart from a few showers about coastal Canterbury and Marlborough.
The west coast of the country will be the place to be weather-wise, says Mr Duncan, and the Wairarapa will be the wettest.
