Auckland's wet start is slowing motorway traffic to a crawl.
The journey to the city centre is taking 40 minutes from Oteha Valley or Westgate and an hour from Drury, the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) says.
It advises motorists to allow for extra time on what it describes as a "damp and dismal" day on the roads.
The agency is also asking drivers to watch their following distances.
Rain is expected to fall this morning in Auckland before clearing this afternoon.
