NIWA's National Climate Centre has released its summary of the climate for June, saying it was very wet overall, with the exception of the West Coast and Southland.
Marlborough and parts of the Waikato and Bay of Plenty had double their normal amount of rainfall during the month and above normal rainfall was also recorded in most other regions.
Temperatures were below average for inland and eastern parts of the South Island and near average in most other regions. The highest temperature recorded was 22.2 degrees at Waipara, with -10.7 degrees at Lake Tekapo the lowest.
Of the six main centres, Auckland was the warmest and sunniest, Christchurch the coolest, Hamilton the wettest and Dunedin the driest.
