A wet countdown to 2015 is in store for most, with forecasters predicting rain across the country on New Year's Eve.
MetService meteorologist Nicole Ranger said a front moving up the country would bring rain to both North and South Islands.
Those who wanted to chase the sun this New Year's Eve should head to the east side of the country because places such as Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Canterbury most likely to stay dry, she said.
Northland, Auckland and Coromandel could expect cloud to increase, and scattered rain to develop throughout the day.
While the forecast is wet it is also expected to be warm. Auckland is likely to reach a high of 22C.
