A Westport driver caught driving while disqualified for the 15th time was yesterday sentenced to three months of community detention, nine months' supervision and 100 hours of community work in lieu of disqualification.
Shane Peter Toms admitted the offending when he appeared before Judge Jane Farish in the Greymouth District Court.
Judge Farish noted that Toms was now living in a supportive environment with his father, finding a sense of community and getting a sense of self-worth in Westport, so she decided not to add to his earlier disqualification, which ends in September 2017, but rather add the community work sentence instead.
