A West Coast woman who was unlawfully locked up in a police cell for nearly a whole day and a night says she's been left traumatised.
A report released yesterday by the Independent Police Conduct Authority found three people were detained unlawfully after their arrest in May last year.
A woman, who was arrested for cannabis possession, said she was locked up in her cell for 19 hours, and denied access to legal representation.
Her lawyer Marcus Zintl said the single mother of a 6-year-old child has been left scarred by what she went through.
The woman planned to seek compensation.
